We drive round table bay and up the West Coast, stoping at Bloubergstrand for the classic view of Table Mountain, Lions Head and Devils Peak. We continue up the coast and into the West Coast National Park. We drive slowly through the park keeping an eye out for indigenous tortoises crossing the road and the occasional ostrich. On our right will be the spectacular Langebaan Lagoon, birding enthusiasts can stop at the hides at the southern end of the lagoon. We continue on to the Postberg Nature reserve where natures bounty continues to amaze as the hillsides are covered in a kaleidoscope of red, white, yellow, orange and purple flowers. An added bonus to this plethora of flora is the fauna also to be found in the reserve – eland, bontebok, zebra, kudu and jackals may be seen. We drive back through the park and exit by the town of Langebaan where we break for lunch. After lunch we drive inland a short way to the unique West Coast Fossil park. We can see the diggings where skeletons of such exotic extinct animals such as the short-necked giraffe, African bears and many others have been uncovered. The diggings are supported by many interesting and informative displays. We then head back towards Cape Town via Hopefield and stopping to look round the quaint town of Darling.
Overnight tours can also be arranged travelling north up to Namaqualand to see the amazing sight of the desert covered in flowers. Contact us for details.
